It is quite a task to explain the place that Leigo Lake Music festival occupies in Estonian entertainment scenery. Maybe the word „entertainment“ is not the right word after all to explain what Leigo is it in its nature. However, it is clear that Leigo is an emotion of quality and powerfulness that lives in our souls long after its reality has gone, it is more than just a moment with friends in the greenery.

So what is Leigo lake music?

The story of Leigo is a story of a dream. In 1981 a biologist and music lover Tõnu Tamm and his family came to Leigo just to look for the summer cottage. 

He could not leave the place anymore as the nature was so fascinating with its hilly landscapes!

Originally there was only one lake at Leigo, but the new master of the house who had his own vision about making disordered bush into beautiful lakes, started to create new lakes. After few years of hard work, the first self-created lake was finished with a little island with willows in the middle. Tõnu Tamm had a dream of listening beautiful music in the wild nature during his travels in Siberia. Finally this dream came true in Leigo on 1998 when he organized the first classical concert on the small lake. The concerts have been taken place every year since then and the number of lakes have been built.

 We believe that Leigo festival is a unique one in Europe, where the symbiosis of nature and music creates lasting, yet one-of-a-kind impressions. Our open-air concerts are held in completely natural venues on the hilly landscapes of the Otepää highland. The musicians' stage is on an island in the lake, surrounded by thousands of listeners on the sloping shore. Each concert is like a performance or film, in which the world of image and sound melts into an audiovisual whole. We unite the musical and landscape adventure, seeking the harmony of fire, water, and sounds.

 As the time goes by, people need moments for thinking and dreaming, they need moments to let go of their everyday routines. We believe Leigo is the place to do it. The palce to listen timeless music, forget about the reality and harmonise yourself with the surrounding nature and let your dreams fly.
